House of Flies is a queer indie horror film with supernatural and psychological thriller elements. The full-length feature follows the story of a couple, Mason and Avery, who reunite after a 6-month break to see if they can salvage their relationship. Set in a secluded, private weekend stay in a forest, the story has multiple plot twists and turns. Even the forest itself seems to be plotting against them.
Within the first few scenes, the leading characters’ plans hit an obstacle when they arrive to find their StayBNB hosts, an older couple named Joseph and Tara, are there when they aren’t supposed to be. This is only the first of many odd occurrences that test the strained couple’s growth and trust in each other, ultimately leading to their hosts’ disturbing truth.
House of Flies boasts an award-winning script! While production gears up for Summer 2025, the screenplay for House of Flies has been turning heads nationally and internationally with wins, nominations, and selections from beloved festivals. Born from a nightmare by director and writer, Alex Havens, the script was started November 2025 with the final draft ready to go by December 2025. In that small window of time, a ruthless spin on a traditional American horror story came to life and began finding its legs on the festival circuit.
It wasn’t long before the script garnered the attention of what would become the production team behind House of Flies today.
Knowing that something special had just been born, Alex Havens took to the internet to put out “calls for help” across local Facebook groups that garnered the attention of many. The first to sign onto the production team was the producer duo Chris & Katie Tawney (AKA Dinosaur), with Chris also acting as Director of Photography. Together, the three set out on an adventure fueled by their joint passion for the script and the horror genre to bring this vision to life.
As the team wrapped up casting and began to move forward in their pre-production process, international best-selling author Susan Alvis reached out and signed on as Executive Producer, rounding out the entirety of the production team.
Together, they are changing the future of horror and independent filmmaking.
